The SchoolSports Rivalry Tour presented by Old Spice saw Mission Viejo (Calif.) rally to defeat De La Salle and retain its top spot in the national rankings this past weekend. And in Illinois, the Rivalry Tour rolled on with Naperville North squeaking by Naperville Central.
The SchoolSports Rivalry Tour presented by Old Spice rolled into California and Illinois this past weekend. In California, De La Salle (Concord) had high hopes of upsetting Mission Viejo, the No. 1 ranked team in the SchoolSports.com National Top 25. And for three quarters, the Spartans looked like they were on their way. But Mission Viejo rallied from a 26-22 fourth-quarter deficit with 14 unanswered points to win, 36-26, and retain its top spot in the national rankings.
De La Salle sophomore quarterback Mike MacGillivray spearheaded the Spartans’ late lead with a 10-yard touchdown pass to senior Vince Colvis and a 1-yard touchdown run.
But with the Spartans leading 23-16 in the third quarter, Mission Viejo senior cornerback Marcus North picked off a MacGillivray pass and returned it 46 yards for a score to cut the lead to 23-22 (Mission Viejo failed on the extra point attempt). De La Salle responded with a 27-yard field goal from Colvis to make it 26-22, but junior Keegan Gogerty and senior

each ran for touchdowns in the fourth quarter to give Mission Viejo the win.
Moline, who’s rated the nation’s No. 94 overall recruit in the Class of 2006 by SchoolSports.com, ran for 176 yards and two touchdowns on 33 carries.
Naperville North squeaks by Naperville Central
The Rivary Tour kicked off the big weekend in Illinois with the battle of Naperville. Naperville North defeated Naperville Central, 32-29, to earn its fourth consecutive win against Central and move to 20-17 in the all-time series.
North defeated Central by a point in last year’s game, but this year’s matchup looked like it was headed for a one-sided affair. North carried a 25-7 lead late into the game as Aaron Fanthorpe ran for a touchdown and tossed two touchdown passes to Matt Struckmeyer.
Central managed two late scores to cut the lead to 25-22, but North’s Nick Booth scored on a 35-yard touchdown run to make it 32-22. Still, Central refused to go away as quarterback Steve Rickert had a 1-yard touchdown run with 2:33 remaining to put Central back within three. But that was the last time Central would score as North held on for the win.
Fanthorpe completed 20-of-26 passes for 222 yards and two touchdowns with one interception and Struckmeyer finished with seven receptions for 100 yards and two touchdowns.
Stay tuned as the Rivalry Tour continues this weekend with a major battle in Texas between Flower Mound Marcus and Lewisville.
