In this week's Football Recruiting Roundup, get the scoop on where No. 1 recruit Derrick Williams is headed and find out the latest news on top prospects DajLeon Farr, Antonio Bass and Elijah Hodge.

If you had placed a bet before this season on where Eleanor Roosevelt (Greenbelt, Md.) senior Derrick Williams would make his college commitment, chances are it wouldn't have been Penn State, which was one of the worst teams in the Big Ten this year.

But Williams, who is rated the No. 1 overall recruit in the Class of 2005 by SchoolSports.com, shocked the recruiting world when he pledged to the Nittany Lions last week over Florida, Texas, Oklahoma and Tennessee.

"I went with my heart, and that was where my heart was at," Williams told The Washington Post.

Williams saw time at quarterback, wide receiver and defensive back this past fall, but he's likely to play wideout in college. He finished this season with 800 passing yards and 13 touchdowns, 1,049 rushing yards and nine touchdowns, 11 catches for 203 yards and two touchdowns, and four interceptions on defense.

His commitment gives Penn State two Top 10 recruits, as Gateway (Monroeville, Pa.) senior defensive back Justin King, who is rated the No. 1 defensive back and No. 9 overall recruit in the Class of 2005 by SchoolSports.com, pledged to the Nittany Lions in November.

LSU Fallout

LSU head coach Nick Saban left the Tigers earlier this week to take over as head coach of the Miami Dolphins. As a result, LSU has taken a big hit on the recruiting front.

North Shore (Galena Park, Texas) senior tight end DajLeon Farr de-committed from the Tigers earlier this week and instead pledged to Miami. Farr is rated the No. 1 tight end and No. 8 overall recruit in the Class of 2005 by SchoolSports.com.

In addition, North Jackson (Stevenson, Ala.) senior athlete Chris Keys also de-committed from LSU and committed to Alabama earlier this week.

More Recruiting News

Jackson (Jackson, Mich.) senior athlete Antonio Bass committed to Michigan last week over Michigan State. Bass is rated the No. 5 athlete and No. 30 overall recruit in the Class of 2005 by SchoolSports.com.

Bass ran for 1,246 yards and 15 touchdowns and passed for 528 yards and four scores this fall as Jackson's starting quarterback. He told the Detroit Free Press that Michigan plans to use him at both wide receiver and quarterback. …

Dillard (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) senior linebacker Elijah Hodge committed to Wisconsin last week over Ohio State and Iowa. The decision was considered a surprise to some since Hodge's older brother, Abdul, is a star linebacker at Iowa. But to Elijah, his decision was more clear-cut.

"I just had a special feeling when I was there," Elijah told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. "Wisconsin just had so much to offer me, and it's where I want to be."

He tallied 125 tackles, six sacks, four forced fumbles and two interceptions this fall. …

Although Iowa lost out on Hodge, the Hawkeyes did receive a commitment this week from one of the nation's top fullbacks in Armwood (Seffner, Fla.) senior Kalvin Bailey.

Bailey chose Iowa over the likes of USC, Georgia Tech, Miami, Florida State, Nebraska and Georgia. Bailey, who ran for 4,618 yards and 64 touchdowns as a four-year starter at Armwood, led the Hawks to the Class 4A state title this fall and a No. 8 final ranking in the SchoolSports.com National Football Top 25.
