In this week's Football Recruiting Roundup, find out which top tight end is back on the market and where one of the nation's top running backs has committed.


One of the nation's top tight ends recently put himself back on the market.

Alief Taylor (Houston, Texas) senior tight end Martellus Bennett, who had pledged to Miami this past June, has de-committed from the Hurricanes. He is still considering Miami along with Texas, Oklahoma, LSU and Florida.

Bennett is rated the No. 2 tight end and No. 53 overall recruit in the Class of 2005 by SchoolSports.com.

Last fall, he tallied 40 pancake blocks as well as 13 receptions for 170 yards and two touchdowns. Through five games this year, Bennett has 23 receptions for 184 yards and four touchdowns.

Nebraska received a big commitment when Pasco (Pasco, Wash.) running back Leon Jackson pledged to the Huskers over California, Washington, Washington State, Oregon and Oregon State.

Jackson was named to the Class 4A All-State team last year after rushing for 1,814 yards and 32 touchdowns to lead Pasco to the Class 4A state title. He's rated the No. 90 recruit in the Class of 2005 by SchoolSports.com. …

Utah is rated among the Top 10 college football teams in the country this year, and a big reason is the play of junior quarterback Alex Smith. Well, the Utes may have found their future replacement for Smith when they received a commitment from Taft (Woodland Hills, Calif.) senior quarterback Josh Portis.

Portis picked Utah over LSU, Oregon and Oklahoma. Through five games this fall, the 6-foot-3, 190-pounder has passed for 980 yards and 14 touchdowns and rushed for 460 yards and six touchdowns. …

Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) senior running back Jorvorskie Lane committed to Texas A&M over Texas, Oklahoma State, Nebraska, Florida and Washington State. Lane rushed for 1,250 yards and 24 touchdowns last year. This fall, he has led Lufkin to a 6-0 start and a No. 11 ranking in this week's SchoolSports.com National Football Top 25. …

Miami Killian (Miami, Fla.) senior defensive back Demetrice Morley has de-committed from Florida. The Gators are still among his top schools along with Michigan, Ohio State, North Carolina and Tennessee.
