SchoolSports.com continues its look at the nation's Top 10 football recruiting classes by breaking down the No. 6 class from Florida State this week. The Seminoles picked up six Top 100 football recruits from the Class of 2004, headlined by Seabreeze High (Fla.) QB Xavier Lee.

For the next two months, SchoolSports.com will rank the Top 10 recruiting classes for the Class of 2004, spotlighting a different college each week. To recap, we ranked USC at No. 1, Miami at No. 2, LSU at No. 3 , Oklahoma at No. 4 and Michigan at No. 5. Now it’s on to No. 6.

No. 6 Florida State

Florida State head coach Bobby Bowden has consistently brought in top notch recruiting classes during his tenure and it’s a big reason why the Seminoles have one of the nation’s elite programs. Bowden continued his recruiting success this year by reeling in another stellar class.

The Seminoles’ biggest catch was Seabreeze High (Fla.) QB Xavier Lee, who’s rated the No. 4 quarterback and No. 8 overall recruit in the country by SchoolSports.com.

The 6-foot-4, 200-pounder was named a Parade All-American, Florida’s Mr. Football and the Class 3A Player of the Year after completing 198-of-361 passes for 3,183 yards, 37 touchdowns and just seven interceptions his senior season. He added 567 yards rushing and 10 touchdowns on 104 carries. Lee finished his career as the state’s all-time leader in passing yards (9,083), touchdowns (98) and completions (549).

Florida State added another Top 100 quarterback in Drew Weatherford of Land O’Lakes High (Fla.). Weatherford, the nation’s No. 56 overall recruit, enjoyed a solid senior season, completing 172-of-341 passes for 2,639 yards and 20 touchdowns while rushing for 470 yards and 10 touchdowns.

Dudley High (N.C.) RB Jamaal Edwards and Miami Edison High (Fla.) OL Jacky Claude were the other two Top 100 offensive recruits who signed with the Seminoles.

Edwards rushed for 2,000 yards and 22 touchdowns his senior year, giving him 4,378 yards rushing and 53 touchdowns in his final two seasons at Dudley. SchoolSports.com rates Edwards as the No. 32 overall recruit in the nation.

Claude was named to the Class 5A All-State team and to The Miami Herald’s All-Dade County after not allowing a sack in two seasons. The 6-foot-4, 285-pounder is the nation’s No. 79 overall recruit.

The Seminoles have had a history of developing star defensive backs such as Deion Sanders and Samari Rolle. They hope they found their next two stars to man the defensive backfield in Mandarin High’s (Fla.) Tony Carter and Miami Killian High’s (Fla.) J.R. Bryant.

Carter is rated the No. 24 overall recruit in the Class of 2004 by SchoolSports.com and with good reason. The 5-foot-9, 165-pounder recorded 61 tackles and five interceptions last fall. Carter returned 11 of his 22 career interceptions for touchdowns.

Meanwhile, Bryant had 37 tackles and four interceptions as a senior. He also caught 10 passes, including two for touchdowns, while playing wide receiver. As a junior, Bryant returned two kickoffs and two punts for touchdowns. The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder is the No. 58 overall recruit in the Class of 2004.

Other top signees for the Seminoles included: Skyline High (Calif.) WR Kenny O’Neal, one of the nation’s top sprinters, who caught 36 passes for 807 yards and scored 20 total touchdowns this past fall; Hart County High (Ga.) LB Jae Thaxton, who finished with a school record 606 career tackles; and Edgewater High (Fla.) DB Kenny Ingram, who had 60 total tackles and five interceptions as a senior.

Check back in next week as SchoolSports.com unveils the No. 7 football recruiting class in the Class of 2004.
